Welcome to LionStrom Rabbitry.
We are a small family run rabbitry located in Nanaimo, B.C. on beautiful Vancouver Island. With the help of my children, Jeremy ,Sawyer, Khloe and now Levi I have been breeding lionhead rabbits since the fall of 2007. We are a homeschool family and are able to devote a generous amount of time to our herd, so every bunny is well loved and cared for. We have a small herd with a maximum capacity of 25 rabbits, but currently have only around a 18 holes filled. I like to keep my numbers low so every rabbit gets the best care possible.
When we first discovered the breed in the summer of 07, it was love at first sight. After many hours of research and a growing passion for this rare new breed, we decided to start our own herd. We began with 2 does and a buck from Manely Rabbits in Victoria and 2 bucks and a doe from Ridgewood Rabbitry in Nanoose. Thanks to Wendy and Wally's hard work and dedication to keeping quality lionheads, I'm now on my way to building my own herd of beautiful lionheads with pedigrees I can be proud of.
Our goal is to breed show quality lionheads with solid coby bodies, beautiful manes, and loving personalities. We are working on a variety of colors in our herd, focusing on torts, blue torts, sable points, siamese sables, pointed whites and REWs. I also have a broken blue tort doe back in my herd. I will breed her on occation and hopefully have some beautiful brokens available now and then.
2011 was good year for me; I've seen some of the nicest lionheads I've ever produced and have had that confirmed on the show table. I've cut back on my numbers, probably selling some I shouldn't have, and didn't do any breeding over the winter months. I took a break from breeding to lighten the work load as I was expecting my fourth child. I'm happy to announce that Levi arrived ahead of schedule on February 26th (the day after his big brother Jeremy's 15th Birthday). I had many helping hands and am confident my bunnies didn't notice that I was less able to do the daily tasks of caring for them. A big thank you to my husband, Joe, (who is allergic to rabbits) and my sons Jeremy and Sawyer who were more than able to pick up the slack when I was too tired and soar to get out to the rabbitry. The 3 of them make a great cleaning team :) Now that Levi has arrived I'm getting back into the swing of things and I'm able to spend more time with the rabbits again. I have done my first 5 breedings, (2 netherlands and 3 lionheads)check out who I paired up on my litters pages.
I hope to attend the Qualicum show in April and I should be back on my feet and ready to get into the swing of things again.
